Shalom friends,
Antisemitism is the oldest documented hatred. It can manifest in different forms and has different triggers – from Kristallnacht to the Women’s March leaders who seem to find points of intersectionality with all minorities, except Jews, to Israel’s continued fight for a secure existence - Jew hate is an issue we need to understand and learn to effectively address.
From March 30th, Israel has been under attack - from arson terrorism, violent riots and missile attacks. Sunday a special ops mission in Gaza, designed to increase Israeli security, ended in the death of Lt. Col. M. and the severe injury of another soldier. It took a battle of extraordinary courage and ingenuity to extract the soldiers from Gaza. Since then, Israeli civilians in the south have been under missile bombardment. Homes have been destroyed, children terrorized, people injured and killed.
Jews under attack in Pittsburgh are no different than Jews under attack in Ashkelon. The hate manifests itself differently but the hate is the same and, all too often, the results are the same. It is up to us to stand together and strengthen ourselves from within. A strong Jewish identity - understanding our history, purpose, and connections as one family, is key to recognizing and being able to address the hate.
We are strongest, together. Am Yisrael Chai!
