We each have the ability to make a difference in how we give to the past a living future, to share the experiences of our people with integrity as we etch them into our souls with each effort to remember. Today is a very important anniversary in the history of the Jewish people. Most people are not aware of the San Remo Conference, which took place on April 19, 1920, lasted for seven days, and published its resolutions on April 25, 1920. These seven days laid the political foundation for the creation of the 22 Arab League States and the one and only Jewish State of Israel. The full text of the Balfour Declaration became an integral part of the San Remo resolution and the British Mandate for Palestine, transforming it from a letter of intent into a legally binding foundational document under international law. At San Remo, Chaim Weizmann proclaimed: This is the most momentous political event in the history of our movement and the history of our people since our exile from our homeland." The planned independent Jewish state details were outlined in three basic documents, which may be termed the founding documents of mandated Palestine and the modern Jewish state of Israel that arose from it. These were the San Remo Resolution of April 25, 1920, where the Balfour Declaration was adopted into international law, the Franco-British Boundary Convention of December 23, 1920, and the Mandate for Palestine conferred on Britain by the Principal Allied Powers and confirmed by the League of Nations on July 24, 1922. SAN REMO ANNIVERSARY The objective of the San Remo resolution was to set down in a brief, clear, and precise manner the Jewish people's legal rights and title of sovereignty to the Land of Israel and Palestine under international law. These rights originated in the global political and legal settlement, conceived during World War I and carried into execution in the post-war years between 1919 and 1923.
