The facts have been forgotten, cast aside as irrelevant. The details were, for years, too horrendous for people to wrap their minds around them - unsure of which lessons could be relevant to them other than to evoke sorrow. And now we live in a world where 1 in every 4 people do not know the Holocaust happened, or deny the historical truth for the sake of their excused Jewhatred. Distortion of the term "genocide" is only possible in a world that has forgotten or never learned. With the Jews erased from mention or belittled because antiIsrael antisemitism is now more palatable, we live in a world filled with those who will stand up and remember the dead but refuse to stand up for the living Jews and the undeniable need for a Jewish state. We are fighting the same war again - for the rights of Jews to live free in the world from hate. THE WORLD HAS NOT CHANGED. WE HAVE NOT CHANGED ENOUGH. WE MUST STOP JUST REMEMBERING. Acting on Holocaust memory is not something we can do one or two days a year. The more we know, the more we can act upon the messages and lessons we inherit.
We are honored to have had a unique opportunity to create an original learning resource for a company on Holocaust memory - with the conditions of nothing too "Jewish" in its messaging, universalized for the sake of their DEI dominated workforce and limitations, nothing about Israel, limited representation of modern antisemitism, no branding, no recognition, no compensation. These are the limits and challenges we face in carrying memory to an active future. But it was a chance to touch 120,000 minds and hearts with the facts and expertly crafted reflection resources Dr. Heideman is known for. With one spark, we kindled perhaps thousands of small flames of interest. It is her dedication to the work of her master, Elie Wiesel Z"L, and to the thousands of Holocaust survivors with whom she has worked to capture the experience and carry on their memory that made this possible.
