Jerusalem Declaration and Days of Making History

Today marks the annexation of the unified city of Jerusalem after the Six Day War. This reunification of the eternal capital of our national homeland marks an important aspect of our national rights, recognized by international leaders throughout history and officially declared by Ben Gurion in 1948.

The historic milestone of Declaration Day, on which we reaffirmed the international recognition of Israel’s independence and existence as the national homeland of the Jewish people, is even more significant post-October 7. Amidst a siege on Jews and Zionism as the fulfillment of Jewish self-determination, our declarations of Jewish indigenous, ancestral, and human rights matter.

At a time when Israel’s truth and Jewish lives are maligned and threatened on every platform, it is imperative to give voice to the many members, friends, and allies who stand united behind the undeniable facts of biblical and modern history.

This year, Declaration Day took on new significance as Israel is forced to continue her fight for independence and freedom. We had the opportunity to join with members of the diplomatic and lay leadership community, in person and online, for an evening of reaffirmations of the shared commitment to Israel’s future.

Hosted by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem, the program allowed for learning, inspiration, and interactive discussion on how the declarations of the past can be used to fight the toxic impact of the attacks against the Jewish world today. Comments delivered by Ambassadors of Uruguay, Guatemala, and the Philippines reiterated the value of international statements of solidarity, as they came to reaffirm their continued commitment to the future of Israel.

We invite you to share the video of the program with your friends, family members, and community. We believe it will enlighten and inspire them in their continued learning about Israel and the value of her independence in a world fragmented by confusion and conflict. If you have not already, now is also a good time to declare your pride in our people and our homeland as a Virtual Citizen of Israel.

This year and every year, Declaration Day has the potential to serve as a reminder and a lesson in the values upon which the Jewish state exists and for which all sides of the political spectrum are fighting to protect.

Join our effort to have Declaration Day affirmed as an internationally recognized Day of Note.
