WHERE ARE WE ON OUR JEWISH JOURNEY?
The road of Jewish destiny is long, and fraught with struggles and pain.
We have endured the slavery, and we have outlasted the suffering.
But this Passover has meant more to all of us than we might have imagined - celebrating freedom with a broken heart, when not all our people are able to even ask the questions that need to be asked, and no one seems to have any answers.
Instead, we turn to one another and we hope for good conversations, inspirational stories, and something to lift ourselves up from the depths of despair that creep into our subconscious. Our love of Tzion was born when our people were transformed into a nation, gifted the Torah and carried on the wings of eagles through the desert challenges to be able to reach fulfillment in the blessed Land Hashem granted as an inheritance to the Jewish People.
We won’t let anyone turn the word Zionism into an ugly slur, and we know how many have been pressured into believing the lies that continue to be spread about Jews, Jewish rights, transforming Jewish nationalism into the only unacceptable form of self-determination, and Jewhatred into the only acceptable form of racism.
The source? The same Jewhatred that has fed the intifadas was born from the same blood of Hitler, Pharoah and every Amalek in between and since. Hamas is no different, and their supporters wearing suicide vests openly to public rallies and calling for the murder of Jews everywhere is a wake up call that is affecting every single Jew - however they identify. Now we are seeing the writing on the wall, whether in political discussions, on social media, or even on some of the most elite college campuses, hatred we had been promised we would never see again.
And so we must remember and we must act.
Action is what saved Jews again and again - refusing to sit idly by while our people are persecuted or maligned. After the Shoah, saving Jews from attacks in Arab lands, and now saving our people everywhere in the world where we are under siege in every corner - that is what we are called to do again and again. WE ARE HERE. Hineni, Mir Zaynen Da, אנחנו כאן. And we aren’t going anywhere.
What are the types of action we can be taking today to be a part of the fulfillment of the dream?
