Generations have fought for Jerusalem and Jewish Rights. So do we.
The support for Israel in the Six-Day War was astounding, the support for Israel for the six days after October 7th was inspiring. But since then the conflict has expanded, compassion fatigue has set in, denial is dominant, mistakes have been made, rape is considered resistance, and too many of the world still blame the Jews and call for our extinction.
The wars of Israel are a war on all Jewish existence. Even now, as our northern towns, villages, ancient ruins and rich forests are aflame, it is Jerusalem that is symbolically under attack.
As we commemorate the reunification of the Jewish nation with our eternal capital, we are reminded that ours was a battle for Jerusalem and all the areas of our ancestral homeland regained in that short war, and it was a battle for survival.
THE INTERNATIONAL RIGHT TO SELF-DEFENSE: THE SIX DAY WAR Each year, we look back to the six days in June 1967 when Israel faced an overwhelming threat to its national survival, and overcame it against all expectations. As is generally known, Israel launched a preemptive war of self defense on opponents of vastly greater size, population, and military strength than her, in order to obtain a chance at surviving as a Jewish State. The context of the preceding years and international law are clear - Israel’s rights to sovereignty and self-defense are set in stone. |

WITNESS THE REUNIFICATION OF JERUSALEM "We are sitting right now on the ridge and we’re seeing the Old City. Shortly we’re going to go in to the Old City of Jerusalem that all generations have dreamed about..." (Colonel Motta Gur, 1967) |

ELIE WIESEL ON THE SIX DAY WAR Future generations will probably never believe it. Teachers will have a hard time convincing their students that what sounds legendary actually occurred. The children will, naturally, swallow each word, but later on, as adults, they’ll nod their heads and smile, remarking that these were fantasies of history. |
Today we are witness to a long war - something we are less familiar with, or can comprehend a need for as the demonization of our just war continues to spread. We are faced with the emotional pull of empathy for “all human life,” and too many question, "why is this taking so long?"
It was the successes of our previous wars that set the standard for the short-war span of patience and expectation. We were able to thwart the takeover of our sovereign state with few soldiers, little ammunition but an abundance of will, a commitment to a collective purpose of survival.
Today, that will that drove our soldiers to success in 1967 remains alive. We see it in those who marched in New York, London, and in every grassroots rally and local initiative ignited by the motivation to be a soldier of our people in whatever way we can. This is what we believe is the embodiment of being a Virtual Citizen of Israel, and we are proud to celebrate you and your continued achievements in our ongoing fight.
The collective purpose for this war remains unclear for some. Perhaps it is only when we see ourselves as a part of the ancestral battle do we realize that our fight in this war and our fight for Jerusalem are born from the same seed.
We must realize that the threat on every border is an attack on Jerusalem and all she means to the Jewish nation and faith.
The threat on every Jewish life is bound to the threat on Jerusalem that continuously is on the verge of eruption.
The denial of the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount is the most dangerous of threats, as it stands at the core of denying Jewish existence.
The refusal to demand the unilateral release of the innocent hostages is a threat on the integrity of the moral code humanity claims to stand on.
The war we face today is a spiritual war as well as a physical one.
We must all be ready to fight.

Everywhere, condemnation over Jerusalem can be seen or heard - wild claims and severe judgments over the beloved capital city of the Jewish Nation since the birth of our people. Why has it become so easy for the world to disregard, even deny, our historical legal rights? How can we address the denial of ancestral rights without deteriorating into polarized defensiveness? |
