The Maccabee Motivation is to Do More
On Chanukah we are reminded of the long fight for Jewish freedom.
As the year and the holiday came to a close, on Shabbat Chanukah, I was in the safe room twice in one day, fired on from 2 different fronts of this global attempt to again genocide Jews. A Holocaust survivor was murdered, there were infiltrations and attempted attacks in Israel and assaults around the world. And 100 hostages are still in captivity.
The world continues to excuse murder and the newly shared testimonies of torture by released hostages, and their evil intent is ignored because of the target of global blame: Israel and the Jews.
It was true in ancient times and it is true today.
We are fighting one fight. We are one aching heart, seeking ways to do, be, and live within this moment. And the Maccabee motivation inspires us to do more.
