On January 23, 1950, Jerusalem eternal and sacred capital of Israel, was declared capital of the modern State by the Knesset (60-2 votes). The western sector of Jerusalem became the official capital of the State of Israel so the presidential residence, the Israeli Parliament (Knesset), the Supreme Court and other administrative institutions were also installed there.
